In the last 20 years, the US has become really great at one thing: pushing paper around, with every participant extracting a percentage. The mortgage fiasco is a prime example, but in fact this is exactly the model of nearly half of the US economy. Until we, as a nation, reject the easy buck and get back to hard work manufacturing quality goods, we are sunk. It is not enough to have a national stimulus, if all that happens is the banks still push money to the various financial institutions, extracting their percentages. We need to have real value created. I do not see any sign that this is happening, and little recognition beyond a great article by David Stockman in the N Y Times Op ED two days ago.

Bravo Rick! I have been preaching the same concerns and experiences. Short sighted.... buy it cheaper, burns up or breaks down faster, dump it our land fills. We've stopped thinking long term.
